As I wrote over on the School Zone blog, some expect school fundraising to hit frenzy status this year, given the deep cuts to school budgets.
It's a trend that worries some people (should kids be turned into salespeople? Should they be selling cookie dough in this era of childhood obesity worries?), but one that also sometimes seems like a necessary evil (it pays for things you want your kid's school to have).
The fundraising isn't only for K-12 schools, either. Some preschools are into it, too, as are some clubs and groups (like Scouts).
Some local schools have tried to side step the trend by simply asking parents for donations, but it seems fundraisers are pretty well ingrained in school culture.
What do you think? Are you all for fundraisers? Wish they'd go away? Prefer to write a check? Have other ideas?
